“Hotel & Guesthouse Raudaskrida was easily our favorite accommodation in Iceland, and we traveled around the entire country. It is situated in a beautiful, quiet area. It does feel out in the middle of nowhere, but we liked it that way! The rooms were beautiful and comfortable. The bathroom was great and we loved the heated towel rack! They also have two geothermal hot tubs that we soaked in with a beautiful view of the sunset.
We were really hoping to see the Northern Lights while we were in Iceland and asked one of the workers if she knew when we could see them. She checked the forecast and told us it was low for that night. We went to bed and were startled by a knock on our door. The owner knew that we were looking forward to see the lights and woke us up to make sure we didn’t miss them! They were incredible. I loved the jam that they served at breakfast, and the owner gave me some for free. Great staff, beautiful place.”
“Best place we have been here in Iceland! Tidy, modern, comfortable! Thanks a lot!”
“It was an excellent surprise to get to this hotel, after a whale watching tour in Husavik. We came and in the middle of nowhere found this lovely place to stay. Rooms are very big and beautiful, breakfast was very rich and we recommend going there very much. You will really enjoy it.”
“I would like to first say how world-class this lovely accommodation was in northern Iceland. I was not expecting such world-class treatment, beautiful room and unbelievably delicious food served. More on the food; It was so good I may have to rank the dinners I had here as my top favorite meals I have ever had in my life (and trust me I am an international foody). Harald goes above and beyond more than any other organizer of birding and wildlife ecotours that I have experienced. Harald made sure I was getting everything I wanted and was just always working hard to fulfill my goals. I am already hoping to come back to Iceland with my fiancé in the not too distant future to try for the northern lights, and I know we will stay the whole time at Hotel Raudaskrida!”
“I went on a short birding trip based at this wonderful hotel in northern Iceland, and had a glorious time! The hotel is indeed in the middle of nowhere (on road 85 somewhat near Husavik), but the amenities, and especially the restaurant, are very up-town. My room was comfortable and quiet, and had a gorgeous view out over the valley toward the snowy hills on the other side. The staff, headed up by owner Harald, treated everyone like personal friends. The food was a major surprise – think France instead of Norway! And a tiny glass of the Icelandic drink called Black Death was just the thing after a long day out. On top of everything, the wifi was excellent. I hope that I can return one day. I could not be more positive about my experience here.”
“One of our favorite hotels during our 2 week vacation. Very charming, clean hotel. Nice staff. We stayed in one of the cabins. We had a beautiful view of the meadows. Nice breakfast. It is close to Husavik so we had dinner in Husavik. Highly recommended.”
“This is a family run accomodation and you can certainly tell, right from the beginning a very warm and happy welcome. We got a real sense that customer comfort is a real priority and we found that nothing was too much trouble for the owners. We had one small problem in our cottage that was fixed quickly and the owners were very generous with compensating for any inconvenience. We were very impressed with their professionalism and kindness. We stayed in the cottage overlooking the lovely sheep paddock, it was cosy, very quiet and comfortable. The restaurant serves lovely food , has a great view and all the staff are very friendly. We found the location was good and close to everything we wanted to do. Soaking in the hot tub at the end of the day was a great bonus. Thank you Harald, Begga and Dad for sharing your wonderful Icelandic hospitality. We had a great time and you made our stay in Iceland even more memorable.”
“Excellent hotel; super friendly and helpful staff; great food and nice calm location and yet with less than an hour to Husavik, Akureyri, Myvatn, Godafoss and other great sights.”
“Clean, Spacious Rooms and a Great Restaurant. The hotel is in a delightful green valley very near to Lake Myvatn, Husavik, and Akureyri. The staff was extremely helpful and went out of their way to help coordinate getting a lost jacket from another hotel back to us. Highly recommend!”
“This was certainly our best experience in Iceland. The room was super-comfy, with private bathroom, something not always granted when you travel through Iceland. The location is great, far enough from civilization to enjoy truly silence and nature, but not too far so that in a few minutes by car you’re back on the Ring Road. The hotel has two hot tubs in the meadows that guests may use, free of charge (another huge plus for the place). Only going there during winter to enjoy a view of the northern lights while having the hot tub is worth the trip. Additionally, the owner is one of the most caring, and kind people we’ve ever met. We got a flat tire, on Sunday morning; not a “normal” Sunday morning, it was also the recurrance of a national seamen festival. Nonetheless, he helped us through the morning until we had the tire repaired and we managed to keep our agenda for the whole day intact. Not many would have helped in such a charming way!”
